SUMMARY:Teaching Approaches to Develop Biliterate Reading: Strategies to Develop Cross-Language Connections & The Interactive Read Aloud
DESCRIPTION:Register Now\n  \n\nDate: Thursday\, February 22\, 2024\nPresenter: Vanessa Figueroa\nECPD Credit Hours: 2 hours\n\nEvent ID: 245503126\n\n\n\n\n\n\nTeaching Approaches to Develop Biliterate Reading: Strategies to Develop Cross-Language Connections & The Interactive Read Aloud \n\n  \nTeachers will explore a variety of research-based strategies to support literacy-based English Language Development in a dual language English-Spanish classroom setting\, a transitional bilingual classroom or other language resource model. Some of the literacy based strategies include making cross-language connections (Metalanguage) and Interactive Read Aloud. This seminar is one of a series of workshops aimed at developing biliteracy. The goals of this series are to develop an awareness of what research says about the importance of metalanguage\, literacy-based ELD and identify teaching approaches that develop biliterate reading. The series will target the English-Spanish dual language classroom setting\, but the strategies can be administered across program models that support culturally and linguistically diverse students.  Escamilla et all (2014) Biliteracy from the Start: Literacy Squared will be among the primary tools leveraged in this series as well other research-based resources. \n  \nAudience: Teachers K-5 (Spanish-English)
