Sense y sentido: Making Meaning In-between Languages and Cultures

Learning In-between Languages And Cultures (LILAC) is a schema that helps us plan instruction that creates opportunities for students to leverage bilingual ways of knowing and meaning making. Any teacher in any classroom can use LILAC as a guide to enhance teaching and learning for bilingual students and build an enriching multilingual ecology for the whole learning community. Participants in this workshop will:

  • Explore the concept of LILAC as a tool to create culturally and linguistically relevant curriculum and learning environments
  • Examine examples of what learning “in-between” languages and cultures can look and sound like in practice
  • Brainstorm ways to affirm, support, and celebrate bilingual ways of knowing and meaning making in their own classrooms

TARGET AUDIENCE: K-12 educators
