Since January 1, 2012, the Illinois Resource Center (IRC), a division of The Center: Resources for Teaching and Learning, has been providing professional learning services to our state’s educators through contracts from the Department of Multilingual at the Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE). These professional learning opportunities, offered in a variety of formats, focus on English Learners (ELs) and are provided free to Illinois school district educators. Workshops and webinars are led by IRC’s education specialists and are sponsored by ISBE.
In-Person Multi-District Workshops are held at different locations throughout the Chicagoland area as well as downstate, including at universities, school districts, community centers and other similar venues. Some workshops will also be offered as a series over time.
Regional Institutes are similar to workshops and are offered throughout the state in specific areas: Region 1 (Chicago, Cook and collar counties), Region 2 (Northwest Illinois), Region 3 (West Central Illinois), Region 4 (East Central Illinois), Region 5 (Southwest Illinois) and Region 6 (Southeast Illinois). Participants may register for any Regional Institute of interest, regardless of location.
*For the remainder of the 2020-2021 school year, all F2F workshops and regional institutes have been reformatted to occur online. Full day (5 credit) workshops we will use a mix of live webinar (about 1.5-2 hours) and asynchronous learning activities worth the remaining hours so you can still get the full day of credit.
Webinars are live online presentations on various topics allow participants from a wide geographic area to become familiar with foundational issues, strategies, and resources for ELs. During the year, webinars are delivered on various topics including Administrator Academies provided in conjunction with the Illinois Principals Association.
