Balancing Language and Content Objectives in the Upper Grades

Teachers will receive evidence-based strategies and share ideas on how to balance language and content objectives when planning for their multilingual learners. We will examine how to build literacy across content areas and set priorities that align to the needs of individual students. We will examine assessments in core content areas and make modifications aligned to students’ stages of language development as evidenced in their writing and oral language development. We will be leveraging the tools from the WIDA 2020 framework to build a common understanding around assessing students’ interpretive and expressive skills. This workshop content will be beneficial for ESL/Bilingual Teachers, Dual Language Teachers or General Education Teachers who would like to learn more about how to support their multilingual learners.

TARGET AUDIENCE: Secondary Education Teachers grades 6-12
