Congratulations to Veronica Rodriguez, a multilingual teacher at Juliette Low Elementary School in Community Consolidated School District 59, (Elk Grove Village), who was recently named by ISBE as the 2021 Bilingual Teacher of the Year. According to the ISBE site, Veronica is quick to point out two educators who were influential in her success school -- one in junior high and another in high school. New Illinois Virtual Instructional Coach & Building Mentor Program

The Illinois State Board of Education has announced the llinois Virtual Instructional Coach and Building Mentor Program to support beginning teachers in these challenging circumstances. The Illinois State Board of Education engaged the Illinois Education Association and the Illinois Federation of Teachers to design a comprehensive program that will offer every participating district’s new teachers wraparound professional support. ISBE Enacts Emergency Rules For Licensure of Bilingual Educators

ISBE has fielded numerous questions regarding lack of licensed bilingual education teachers for the upcoming school year. Individuals’ inability to receive licensure has centered around that fact that many licensure testing centers, which are operating at partial capacity and only offer the target language proficiency tests a few times per year, have no available testing slots for the remainder of this summer and into the fall. This prevents educators from taking the requisite test to receive licensure prior to the start of the school year.   ISBE has enacted emergency rules to enable districts to employ individuals as bilingual educators this fall.
