Scaffolding CS for ELs K-5

Virtual workshop

Join this session to discover how scaffolding CS learning increases accessibility for English Learners. We will model how to identify computer science (CS) and computational thinking (CT) concepts, practices, and skills within non-CS subject areas. Then, we will practice various evidence-based pedagogical approaches that support opportunities to meaningfully engage English Learners in grade-level CS learning, as well as increase skills in language development and executive functioning.

Scaffolding CS for ELs for 6-12

January 15, 2026

Virtual workshop

6-12 Educators: Join this session to learn how to integrate computer science (CS) concepts and computational thinking (CT) practices into multiple subjects for English Learners. We will analyze various curricular resources and instructional materials that are aligned to WIDA and CS standards. Then, we will develop lessons and activities that provide English Learners with multiple opportunities (in a year and across grade levels) to apply CS/CT concepts and practices to other content areas.

Cyber for ELs

April 21, 2026

4:00 PM – 6:00 PM

Virtual workshop

Join this session to learn how to address and overcome challenges to integrating cybersecurity concepts and practices into instruction of English Learners. We will discuss why cyber knowledge and digital citizenship are essential for English Learners and explore various career opportunities afforded by quality cyber education. Then, we will scaffold CYBER.ORG curricular lessons and instructional activities for English Learners to help them enhance language skill development, as well as connect and apply cyber knowledge to their home lives.

AI for ELs

May 21, 2026

4:00 PM – 6:00 PM

Virtual workshop

Join this session to learn how to incorporate artificial intelligence (AI) tools and concepts into multiple subject areas (e.g., math, science, and writing), while supporting English Learners in language skill development. We will evaluate and utilize curated AI tools and curricular resources to create and/or modify lessons, activities, and instructional materials that support differentiated instruction of English Learners. Then, we will discuss strategies for helping English Learners understand the impact of AI in their everyday lives.
