We all know that emergent literacy best takes place in students’ first language.  In this workshop we will focus on how we can best support English learners in their quest to become readers in their second language.

  • Explore how to support students’ emergent first language literacy even when you don’t speak it and materials aren’t available;
  • Examine best practices for supporting L2 literacy development;
  • Get to know a fun and effective approach to interactive read-alouds
  • Incorporate all four language domains into literacy instruction
  • Make plans to take new learning back to school/district

This virtual workshop will include both a live webinar and a self-paced learning module. The live webinar will last approximately 90 minutes.  During the webinar you will receive access to an asynchronous learning module to be completed within two weeks.  After the IRC receives your completed module, you will receive an email with a link to the evaluation.  Upon completion of the evaluation, you will receive an email with a link to your Evidence of Completion form.

TARGET AUDIENCE: K-5 teachers, coaches, and administrators
