The IRC would like to congratulate Education Specialist Carly Spina on the release of her new book, Moving Beyond for Multilingual Learners, available now from EduMatch Publishing.
In her new book, Carly, who joined the IRC team in the summer of 2021, shares effective strategies and resources learned from more than 15 years working in schools with linguistically diverse student populations. At the IRC, we believe that “all kids deserve to come to classrooms that value their identities and honor their families’ languages,” and this is a core tenet of Carly’s book.
“When it comes to serving our multilingual learners, there are countless ways for us to strengthen our practice,” she writes. “This book will help us to reflect on ways to move beyond our current practices and really dive deep into ways to enhance instruction, create meaningful social-emotional learning experiences, empower families, partner with our community, and more. Let’s reflect on our roles as change agents in our systems! It’s time to flip lenses and disrupt the deficit narratives of those we serve.”
This book is an expansion of Carly’s passionate commitment to empowering educators working with multilingual students and families and her generous sharing of knowledge and resources, including her blog, and now, her workshops with the IRC. We also invite you to join Carly for a free webinar where she will discuss the book and share knowledge, strategies and resources on the evening of Wednesday, December 8th.
Congratulations to Carly on this wonderful achievement!
