Building Background Bilingually: Creating Language Rich Opportunities while Introducing Text

• In this workshop we will take a look at how to activate prior knowledge of text and increase student understanding by building background across languages and through translanguaging.
• We will explore how to support students in both Spanish and English literacy through bilingual pre-reading activities.
• We will examine ways to create a conceptual preview that allows for all students to have entry points into a text through the use of their entire language repertoires.
