A year ago, Covid-19 changed our lives. Just about everything was done remotely from home. It was surreal. Remote teaching and learning has not been kind to many students, parents, and of course, teachers and administrators. The field of education, from early childhood to adult education, was hit hard by the pandemic, and it was transformed by it, too. In Memoriam – Zoila Garcia

The Illinois Resource Center is saddened to hear of the passing of long-time IRC supporter, Zoila Garcia. Our deepest sympathies go out to her family. Zoila Garcia, a passionate proponent of dual education, passed away June 7, 2020.  Ms. Garcia had been principal at Whittier Elementary School in Chicago and, previous to that assignment, had been a long time educator at Inter-American Magnet School.  In those roles, she touched the lives of countless students and families, particularly honoring their languages and cultures.  Zoila will be sorely missed.
