Standards in Action: Unpacking Language Demands and Opportunities
Ensuring equitable access to rigorous content for all learners requires a deep understanding of language demands. In this workshop, participants will:
- Explore the WIDA Guiding Principles and Standards
- Learn the difference between language functions, forms, and features
- Identify the WIDA Key Uses of Language present in a specific unit or lesson that you teach. (suggested focus on writing instruction)
- With a content and language target in mind, think about reasonable expectations for students at a variety of language development levels
- Consider scaffolds or supports for receptive and productive language
Heavy lifting, yes… but the day will be filled with lively activities, color, collaboration, games, and music! The structure of the day will provide additional ideas to take back to your classroom.
Audience: All Educators
